Doug Novsek, an assistant men's basketball coach at Nebraska the past three seasons, was recently honored when he was inducted into the Lawrenceville (Ill.) High School Hall of Fame. A native of Lawrenceville, Novsek was one of seven former athletes inducted on Oct. 22 and is one of only 17 to earn the honor following last year's inaugural class.
Novsek was a four-year letterwinner while leading the team to four regional titles, three sectional crowns, three conference titles and a state championship. Under his guidance, Lawrenceville earned a 111-11 record, including a perfect 34-0 mark in 1982.
Novsek was runner-up for the Illinois Mr. Basketball title that season as a senior playing for Coach Ron Felling, who later went on to serve as an assistant coach at Indiana under Bob Knight. Novsek still ranks among the all-time scoring leaders in Illinois prep history with 2,193 career points.
Entering his fourth season with Nebraska, Novsek currently works with the Husker point guards after spending the last two seasons assisting the post players. Novsek previously served as an assistant coach at Illinois State, Southwest Texas and Indiana State before joining the Huskers.
