Coetzee Falls at ITA Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - Junior Sean Coetzee represented the Nebraska men's tennis team Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Fall Championships. Coetzee dropped both matches to conclude Nebraska's fall competition.

Coetzee was defeated, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round of qualifying singles by Rain Roigas from Arkansas-Little Rock.  In the backdraw qualifying singles, Coetzee lost to Matt Gordon of St. Louis to finish 0-2 during the tournament.

Six Huskers will be playing in the Main Draw Singles on Friday, Oct. 21.  Senior Jerry Posch, juniors Adrian Szatmary and James Clow along with sophomores Karl Jones and Vincent Pietro will join freshman Ayhan Oray in the first round of 64.

The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event earns spots in the November 3-6 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

In addition to host Tulsa, this event featured the top players from Division I central region schools, including Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Missouri State, UMKC, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, South Dakota State and Wichita State.

Seventeen Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over these last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country.
