Los Angeles, Calif.?Nebraska's Kim Hartmann fell in the third round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Hartmann was the only member of the Nebraska women's tennis team competing in the field before falling.
After defeating three ranked opponents in the first five matches of her career, Hartmann dropped a match to BYU’s Lauren Jones, the No. 94 player in the nation. Jones took the first set, 6-2, but Hartmann bounced back to take the second set to force a tiebreaker. Hartmann's comeback fell short, 7-6 (2), in the third set.
Assistant coach Hayden Perez was proud of the way Hartmann fought in the match.
“Lauren Jones was on fire in the first set and there wasn’t much Hartmann could do to stop her,” Perez said. “Hartmann fought hard to get back into the match in the second set, but there were some tough games that were just too much to come back from. It was a tough loss after getting that far.”
The Huskers hit the courts again Oct. 19, at the Rolex Central Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah.
