Maine Coach Jack Cosgrove Quotes

Maine Head Coach Jack Cosgrove
Postgame Quotes
Sept. 3, 2005
Memorial Stadium
Lincoln, Neb.

Opening Statement
"I have to tell you the truth, I felt like we had a chance.  We just didn't make it work.  I think we competed well and played hard and tough.  We did an outstanding job in the redzone and forcing turnovers.  We had a lot of young guys and we learned a lot.  We played hard and found out a lot about ourselves.  We just have to keep our heads up and get ready for next week."

On the Quarterback plan
"It was something we worked with.  Chris Legree gives us a new dimension, and it really adds to our offense."<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

On the experience of playing <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska in Lincoln
"We weren't here for the experience, we were here to win.  We have tremendous respect for Nebraska.  The best part about the game was that we found out a lot about ourselves."

About the inexperience of your team
"We had many first year players.  Some guys went the wrong way at times but we will correct that."

At halftime after the interception, what did you tell the team
"I told them at halftime that this was similar to the MississippiState game.  We can do this.  The defense was good in the third quarter holding them to field goals.  That really kept us in the game.  We couldn't seem to protect the quarterback.  Nebraska just has so much speed."

About the Defense's success
"We have lots of tough kids.  We wanted to stop the run, and we kept them under 100 yards.  I don't know how many times I have seen Nebraska run for 700 yards, so you know I want to brag about that.  We pressured the quarterback and got turnovers."

About your lasting memories from the game
"The fans were tremendous.  I have to tell you, I got goose bumps walking off of the field and so did my kids.  We are not used to this.  These people care about football and about football players.  They are really first class fans."
