Nebraska Player Quotes

Safety Daniel Bullocks
On being prepared for Wake Forest's offense
“I like these tight matchups.  That's how we practice with the run.  (Coaches) try to get us into the mentality of stopping the run and when (opponents) came out with it, I had to step up and take care of my opportunities."

On stopping Wake Forest on the run
"We get to the ball as fast as we can.  We try to make things as hard on them on the offensive side as we can."

On his forced fumble
“I didn't think you could steal a fumble, but I did that in high school.  I just take advantage of practice and work on stripping the ball every time and I saw that opportunity tonight and I rushed to it and took advantage of it."

On taking the ball right out of Barclay's hands
“He didn't see me coming and he had the ball out and I just took advantage of it."

 On improving the pass rush
"The first game we had (11) sacks, this game we had five sacks.  It all starts up front.  If they put pressure on the quarterback, then we've got a better chance against the pass."

On twin Josh's displacement out of New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina
"It's been hard on him and everyone else.  They'll be out of New Orleans for a year and he's trying to adjust to that, but I know he'll get through it and do a great job whereever he's at."

Linebacker Corey McKeon
On returning an interception for at touchdown
“It didn't feel like I used to be a running back out there, because (38) yards felt more like 80.  They always tell you to never look back, but I had to because I was dying out there."

On the issue of his being undersized
“They say I'm undersized, but it doesn't matter because if they can't catch you, they can't touch you.  You can say I'm undersized as much as you want to."

On deciding to come to Nebraska
“I came here and Barrett (Ruud) was such a great guy and we clicked so well, that I thought this was the place for me."

 On learning from Barrett Ruud
“He was a great player and a great guy.  He's going to make a great coach some day if he decides to.  He plays smart, he knows the game.  He's all mental and then he's got physical on top of that.  That's what he taught me and I'm just trying to follow in his footsteps.  And break his tackling record."

On how the defense plays together
“Football is such a team sport and you just go out and play with your friends.  Our defense just plays so well together and that makes it really fun."

On the key to the Blackshirts' success
"Just communication.  Just being out there and communicating with the D-line and letting them know where you're going and them telling you where they're going.  I think our speed has also dramatically improved, so we're coming off the edge quicker.  Coach Coz (Cosgrove) is making some great calls. We're just having fun.  It's heart.  We're playing with heart."

Quarterback Zac Taylor
On his comfort level
"I think that first run in the second half just got us on the right foot. We gained a lot of confidence off just that one drive."

On the defensive scores

"It's nice when you look up at the scoreboard, it's 14-0 and you haven't done anything. It's definitely very helpful, but obviously the offense wants to score some points as well."

On positives and negatives of the game
"I think just very minor stuff. I missed some really easy throws and just need to get my feet set. I think we were off mechanically. We had some good drives, and next week we'll be even better."

On establishing a rhythm
"You really start to feel good with it. There were a couple of times when we started out of rhythm and I missed my throws, but there are times when you really start to get hot. It'd be nice if we could keep that the whole game. Coach was calling plays and we knew guys were going to be open. I just started building my confidence with each throw. Guys were making good plays tonight."

Offensive Tackle Seppo Evwaraye
On the offense
"It was a little bit sticky in the beginning, but it started getting easier. We started picking up the blitz pretty well and started moving the ball a lot better the second half. But it's tough; we're still taking baby steps and giving receivers hope. I think we did get better today, but there are still strides to make.

On the offensive line
"I think we're still trying to gel a little bit, trying to get used to all the new guys. I think that made a little bit of difference. We just need more games under our belts, and I think today will just help us out. The second half was a totally different story. Communication was a big part of it. I think that's something from last game to this game -- we made a major jump. We started talking a lot more, were a lot more relaxed. When we had that long touchdown run, the game kind of exploded. A weight came off our hearts and we played a lot looser."
