Four Huskers Earn Scholastic All-America Honors

Four members of the Nebraska women’s golf team were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements in the 2004-05 season by earning spots on the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team.

Junior Jackie Beste led the group by earning a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the spring semester. Senior Merynn Ito and junior Chelsea Gehring joined redshirt freshman Allison Stewart on the prestigious list of 199 women.

Ito and Beste have both been honored by the NGCA in previous years.  Ito was honored by the NGCA in 2003 and 2004, while also earning first-team academic All-Big 12 in 2003, 2004 and 2005.  Ito has also been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll eight times. Beste was honored by the NGCA in 2004 and has also been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll six times, including first-team academic All-Big 12 in 2004.  All four student-athletes were named first-team academic All-Big 12 Conference in 2005.

Ito finished her career at Nebraska by qualifying for the NCAA Central Regional where she finished 42nd.

The NGCA recognizes student-athletes with cumulative GPA’s of 3.5 and better who have participated in at least 66 percent of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
