Minneapolis, Minn. -- Adam Shabala became the second former Husker to make his Major League debut this season, as he drove in two runs in San Francisco's 14-7 victory over Minnesota Thursday evening. Shabala, who started in the Husker outfield in 1999 and 2000, went 0-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs in becoming the 21st Husker to reach the Major Leagues.
"I'm a little excited, a little antsy for 7 o'clock to roll around," Shabala told MLB.com. "I want to make this debut. I'm just trying to stay calm right now. I don't want to get too anxious where I'm making a fool of myself out there."
"I never knew what to expect -- they haven't told me what my role would be up there, but obviously with (Todd) Linden playing every day they want to set me up for my role down the road," said Shabala. "You can't beat showing up at a big league stadium every day. It's amazing. It puts everything back in perspective for me. It's great to be playing baseball and hopefully we can turn this around, get some wins and get everybody happy again."
Shabala, who was drafted by the Giants in the 10th rounds following his senior year at Nebraska, was called up by the Giants on Sunday after hitting .287 with nine homers and 22 RBIs in 56 games for AAA Fresno. He joins Dan Johnson, who made his MLB debut with Oakland on May 27. The duo were teammates at Nebraska in 2000, helping the Huskers to 50 wins and the school's first NCAA Regional title.
With Shabala's callup, all three members of the 2000 Husker starting outfield - coached by current Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson - are on a Major League 40-man roster.
