Lincoln ? University of Nebraska baseball coach Mike Anderson announced the signing of Andrew Brown (Carrollton, Texas) to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Husker program next season.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder was one of the top players in the junior college ranks playing for Deron Clark, who is completing his eighth season at Paris (Texas) Junior College. This spring, Brown
batted .404 (72-for-178) with 15 homers and 55 RBIs. He also had 20 doubles and scored 49 runs for the Dragons, which finished with a 26-27 record in 2005.
"Andrew is a plus hitter who gives us some versatility at first base or in the outfield," Anderson said. "He has shown the ability to drive in runs and hit for power from the right side. He is also familiar with our offensive philosophies, as he worked with Justin Seely at Paris JC."
Seely was a two-year starter for the Huskers’ 2001 and 2002 College World Series squads.
A two-year starter at Paris JC, Brown earned first-team NJCAA Region 14 East honors and is a candidate for regional and national accolades released later in the month. As a freshman, he hit .333 with 35 RBIs.
"He brings immediate power and the ability to drive in runs," Clark said. "We scored 324 runs as a team this year, and he was responsible for nearly a third of our offense."
