Lincoln ? The Nebraska softball team managed just three hits in a 2-0 loss to Kansas on Wednesday in front of 463 fans at Bowlin Stadium.
With the loss, NU fell to 27-16 overall and 5-6 in the Big 12 Conference. Sophomore right-hander Ashley DeBuhr, the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
Christina Ross (9-6) earned the victory for the Jayhawks, which improved to 20-18 overall and 3-7 in the Big 12.
Kansas scored a pair of two-out runs in the top of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Destiny Frankenstein hit a solo home run to put the Jayhawks on the board. Serena Settlemier then singled and scored on a double from Nettie Fierros.
Nebraska’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth. Junior KoKo Tacha reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to second when Jessica Moppin’s throw to first ended up in the dugout. With the runner at second and no outs, senior Anne Steffan struck out swinging, before junior Jessica Yoachim laid down a bunt to move Tacha to third. Junior Elizabeth Rock grounded out to Ross to end the threat.
The Huskers had base runners in four of the seven innings and left three on base. Yoachim, Porter and sophomore Jamie Waldecker were the only players to record a hit.
NU's defense was solid as it did not commit an error and turned a season-high two double plays.
Nebraska returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Northern Colorado for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The game can be heard on KKUL or on Huskers.com.
