Reggie Rankin has resigned from his position as assistant men's basketball coach at Nebraska. Rankin spent the past five seasons on the bench with NU head coach Barry Collier and was the longest tenured assistant on the staff with Collier.
Rankin has assumed a similar position at Dayton, which is just an hour away from his family. Rankin is originally from Columbus, Ohio, and has held coaching positions at two Division I schools in the state, Bowling Green State (1993-94) and his alma mater, Ohio University (1996-97).
"We wish Reggie, his wife and children only the best as he makes a move closer to his family in Ohio," Collier said. "Reggie has been an integral part of helping us build the program the past five years. We appreciate his engery and focus, and hope he continues his success as an assistant and some day as a head coach."
Rankin worked primarily with the point guards at Nebraska while also serving as an off-campus recruiter each of the past five seasons. He was involved with two Husker recruiting classes ranked in the top 30 in the nation, and was the lead recruiter with three junior college All-Americans (Nate Johnson, Marcus Neal Jr. and Marcus Perry) over the past three years.
