Huskers Escape Rain Inside Cook Pavilion

Lincoln? The Nebraska football team was forced inside Cook Pavilion by heavy showers that moved into the Eastern Nebraska area Monday afternoon. NU began its final week of spring football with a two-hour practice in full pads, only the third workout remaining prior to Saturday’s annual Red-White scrimmage.

Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell is pleased with the progress he has seen from the quarterback position thus far during the spring, especially junior Zac Taylor, who has been getting the majority of snaps with the No. 1 offense during the last week.

"He’s been working with that first unit and doing an excellent job," Norvell said. "He made some important plays (Saturday). Some of the things that he executed on Saturday, we’ve been trying to do since we got here. He hung in there with a lot of pressure, took some shots and he earned a lot of people’s respect."

Norvell also commented on the format of next Saturday’s scrimmage, which will feature the top offensive and defensive units on one side against the reserve units, similar to last year’s game.

"It’ll be ones against the world, like it was last year," Norvell said. "I think it’s the best format there is, and I’ve done it a lot of different ways. The most important thing you want is continuity. You want to keep your units together, because they’re going to play with each other in the fall."

Sophomore quarterback Joe Dailey was held out of throwing drills Monday with a sore shoulder. Norvell said that Dailey was cleared to practice, but they merely held him as a precaution. He should be in action during Saturday’s spring game.

Nebraska continues spring workouts Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Only two practices remain before the annual Red-White Game on April 16. Tickets for the Spring Game can be purchased online at Huskers.com and by calling or visiting the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office.
