Miller Leads Huskers to Another Title

Birmingham, Ala. - The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team earned its third consecutive tournament title and fifth title of the season at the Collegiate Holiday Classic in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday, March 6.  The Huskers dominated the two-day event with an overall record of 9-1, losing just one match to Fairleigh Dickinson.  NU racked up a pinfall of 10,323 to claim the top spot.  New JerseyCity took second place with an overall pinfall of 9,848, and a record of 8-2.

 

Sophomore Adrienne Miller led the Huskers with a stellar 229.125 average through eight games of competition.  Miller captured her second tournament title of the season and her career.  She claimed her first title last weekend at the Bayside Collegiate Classic with an average of 208.  On the season Miller has four top-five finishes through seven events.

 

Freshman Lindsay Baker joined Miller on the all-tournament squad with 216.625 average and an overall pinfall of 1,733.  Baker placed third overall to produce her fifth top-five finish through seven events this season.

 

Senior Shannon Pluhowsky added a 200.125 average to finish in ninth, while junior Jamie Martin contributed a 12th-place finish with a 197.125 average.  Amanda Burgoyne rounded out the list of Husker competitors with a 23rd-place finish (184.25).

 

“Overall it was a very pleasing event,” Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub.  “It is great to see everyone bowling so well.  As a team, we scored the best, and I think we did wonderful.”

 

The Husker bowlers return to action March 19 and 20 at the Nashville Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
