Huskers Claim Fourth Straight Title

Nashville ? The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished the regular season on a high note, earning its fourth consecutive title, and sixth title on the year, at the Nashville Classic in Nashville, Tenn.  The Huskers dominated, as they lapped the field with a 9-0 record over the two-day event held at the Melrose Lanes over the weekend.

Four Husker bowlers were named to the five member all-tournament team.  Senior All-American Shannon Pluhowsky earned the top spot with an average of 217.  Pluhowsky currently has two individual titles this season,  boosting her career titles to 12.  She currently holds the record for most tournament titles by an individual for the Huskers.  Joining Pluhowsky on the all-tournament team were sophomore Amanda Burgoyne, who  finished in second place with a 202 average, junior Jamie Martin who was  third with a 202 average while freshman Lindsay Baker finished fourth with a 198 average.  Sophomore Adrienne Miller finished in eighth place with a 190 average.

“Earning the tournament title and having four bowlers in the all-tournament team was a great way to cap the season,” commented head coach Bill Straub.  “Throughout the season  I believe we developed nicely, and I can only hope for the best in the future.  Overall, everyone performed admirably.”

The Huskers will wait to receive a bid to nationals where they will defend their title.  Last year at the first-ever NCAA tournament,  Nebraska earned the tournament crown and have high hopes of doing it again with the return of all seven bowlers from last year's national champion squad.  The NCAA championships take place April 14-17 in Orlando, Florida.
