The United States Track Coaches Association announced its annual NCAA Division I indoor track and field awards Tuesday. Nebraska collected three of the organizations four top honors for the Midwest Region.
NU Head Coach Gary Pepin swept the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year Awards for first USTCA indoor coaching honors since the 2001 season. Pepin also claimed both men’s and women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year honors last spring.
Junior Priscilla Lopes was named Female Athlete of the Year for the Midwest Region after earning her first Big 12 Conference championships in the 60-meter dash and hurdle events. Lopes, the defending NCAA champion in the hurdles, currently ranks No. 1 in the nation for the event, as well as No. 2 for the 60-meter dash.
Nebraska aims to collect more season honors as it sends a group of 16 athletes to compete at this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
