Lincoln Neb.--The No. 38 Nebraska women's tennis team overpowers No. 40 Oklahoma, 5-2, Saturday March 5, at the WoodsTennisCenter. NU improves to 12-2 on the year and 3-2 in conference.
Head Coach Scott Jacobson was proud of his teams' effort.
“I am proud of the energy that we played with in doubles” Jacobson sad. “That really set the tone for the rest of the day. We played with lots of heart and passion.”
In singles play, No. 18 Gitte Ostermann dominated Irina Lykina in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Ostermann improves to 11-2 at the No. 1 slot. Junior Pamela Castillejos remains undefeated at the No. 5 slot, defeating Christy Greenly, 7-6, (7-4), 6-1. Castillejos is 12-0 on the season.
In doubles, NU swept OU winning all three slots. At the No. 3 slot, freshman Ellinor Zugner and junior Milena Schulz-Gartner recorded their second win together defeating OU's Christy Beth Griffin and Christi Baxley, 8-6. The No. 23 duo of Ostermann and senior Katie Garcia dominated Irina Lykina and Saluri, 8-3.
The Sooners fall to 7-4 on the year.
The Huskers travel to Kansas next weekend to take on the Jayhawks on March 12, at Noon.
