Huskers Headed to Baltimore

The Nebraska bowling team is set to compete this weekend in the Bayside Collegiate Classic. The two-day tournament is being held at the Brunswick Perry Hall in Baltimore, Md. The Huskers will be going for their second tournament title in 2005, and fourth tournament title of the season. Nebraska will compete against 16 of the top bowling programs in the country. The tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday at 11 a.m., and concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Martin Earns First Title
Nebraska junior Jamie Martin earned her first career tournament title at the Brunswick Coca-Cola Classic in February. Martin averaged a 207.43 through seven matches to claim the top spot, and helped NU to its third tournament title this season. Freshman Lindsay Baker joined Martin on the all-tournament team with a fourth-place finish, and averaged a 193.29.

Nebraska Ranked No. 1 on First Ever NCAA Poll
The Nebraska bowling team earned the number one ranking on the first ever National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, released Jan. 15. In previous years the rankings had been done by the Amateur Bowling Association. Now that bowling has taken on an NCAA sport status, an official poll was organized.

Pluhowsky Named WIBC Captain
Nebraska senior Shannon Pluhowsky was named the 2004 Women’s International Bowling Congress All-America team captain. Sophomore Amanda Burgoyne earned second-team honors. Bowling writers, broadcasters, WIBC Hall of Famers, and officials all took part in the voting process. The All-America team features the top bowlers in the country.
