Eight Husker Golfers Earn Spots on Big 12 Honor Roll

Lincoln - Seven current players and one former member of the Nebraska women's golf team earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll during the 2004 fall semester.

Headlining the list of fall honorees for the Huskers are senior Merynn Ito and juniors Jackie Beste and Chelsea Gehring.  Ito, one of  Nebraska's top players on the course for four seasons, earned her seventh spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll as a news-editorial major.  Ito, a native of Aiea, Hawaii, is a two-time NGCA Scholastic All-American and a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection.

Beste, a native of Sauk Centre, Minn., posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as an accounting major.  An NGCA Scholastic All-American and first-team academic All-Big 12 pick in 2004, Beste is also one of the Nebraska's top players on the course while carrying a cumulative GPA above 3.9.  Beste is a five-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.

Gehring earned her seventh selection to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.  One of the Huskers' top players during the 2004 fall campaign, the Aberdeen, S.D., native carries a cumulative GPA above 3.9 as a horticulture major.

Senior Beth Anne Bryson, a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School, added her seventh appearance on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Bryson is an elementary education major.  She earned first-team NGCA Scholastic All-America and first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in 2003.

Sophomore Andrea Dunagan earned her third spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.  The middle grades education/coaching major is a native of Grand Island, Neb.

Redshirt freshman Allison Stewart from Vermillion, S.D., added her third selection to the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll.  One of the Huskers' top players during the 2004 fall campaign, Stewart is majoring in accounting at Nebraska.  True freshman Megan Place from Omaha added her first appearance on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.  Place is a pre-law major.

Former Husker Stephanie Schaefer from Columbus, Neb., rounded out the list of Husker women's golfers who earned spots on the fall honor roll.  Schaefer, who completed her eligibility as Nebraska's top player in 2003-04, is completing her degree as a nutrition and dietetics major.

In order to earn a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes must earn a 3.0 grade-point average or better during the semester.  Overall, Nebraska led the Big 12 with 257 fall honor roll members across all sports, including 28 student-athletes who posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
