11 Huskers Honored for Academic Excellence

Lincoln ? The Nebraska volleyball program capped a remarkable fall campaign on Friday, as a total of 11 current or former Husker student-athletes were named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

 

In all, nine of the 13 members of the 2004 squad had grade-point averages of 3.0 or better during the fall semester, including a quartet of student-athletes who had 4.0 GPAs. That success mirrors the Huskers’ 30-2 record, an undefeated Big 12 season and an appearance in the NCAA Regional finals.

 

Of the 28 Husker student-athletes who enjoyed 4.0 GPAs in the fall, four were members of the volleyball program, including three members of the starting lineup. Freshman Sarah Pavan not only excelled on the court, earning AVCA National Freshman-of-the-Year and first-team All-America honors, but had a perfect 4.0 GPA in her first semester at Nebraska.

 

Pavan was joined by freshmen Tracy Stalls, sophomore Christina Houghtelling and junior Kelsey Fautsch. Houghtelling and Fautsch were both first-team academic All-Big 12 honors and were candidates for academic All-America honors in 2004.

 

In addition to the nine members of the 2004 squad, former Husker players Anna Schrad and Rachel Baumstark also were honored with selections to the conference honor roll.

 

The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had 257 student-athletes named to the fall honor roll, including 28 who produced perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall semester.
