No. 74 Nebraska Blanks No. 68 Washington State

Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 74 Nebraska women's tennis team blanked No. 68 Washington State, 7-0, on Sunday at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln to improve its record to 5-0.  The victory extends NU's home non-conference winning streak to 60.  This is the Huskers second straight win over a ranked team.

Nebraska Head Coach Scott Jacobson was excited about the play of his team.

"Washington State has lost to some good teams this year," Jacobson said.  "What is impressive is that we didn't lose a single set.  Washington State just lost to No. 25 BYU, 4-3.  It's a great confidence boost going into conference play, and we'll continue to get better."

The Huskers' doubles play has yet to drop a set this season.  Junior Pamela Castillejos and Milena Schulz-Gartner defeated the Cougars' Orsolya Sallai and Aleksandra Stefanova, 8-2.  Castillejos and Schulz-Gartner imporved their record at the No. 3 slot to 5-0.

In singles, senior captain Katie Garcia once again set the tone by winning the first singles point of the day, winning 6-2, 6-0, over WSU's Aleksandra Stefanova.  Senior Gitte Ostermann, ranked No. 19 nationally, defeated Eketraina Burduli in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

No. 68 Washington State fell to 2-4 on the season.

Nebraska will open Big 12 conference play at home against Missouri on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.
