Four Huskers Advance at U.S. Amateur

Dallas, Texas -- Three current Nebraska bowlers and one former Husker are one step closer to Team USA as they advanced to the top-24 in the U.S. Amateur, which is being held at the Don Carter All-Star West Lanes in Dallas. Moving into Thursday’s match-play are Nebraska bowlers Adrienne Miller, Amanda Burgoyne and Shannon Pluhowsky, as well as former Husker, Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty.

Miller has spent the last three days of the U.S. Amateur near the top of the qualifying. She stands in fifth place with an average of 199.33 through the first 24 games.

Burgoyne jumped into the top-24 on the strength of her 207.75 average for the last eight qualifying games. Overall, she averaged 194.66 in 24 games. Burgoyne is in 15th going into the first eight games of match-play.

Pluhowsky, the three-time defending U.S. Amateur champion, sits in 16th place with an average of 194.5. Heading into match-play, Pluhowksy has a chance to make history by winning her fourth consecutive U.S. Amateur title.

Nebraska bowlers Jamie Martin and Lindsay Baker narrowly missed the top-24 cut. Martin finished 29th with an average of 187.1. Baker finished in 33rd place with a 186.3 average.

Asbaty leads the Nebraska contingent into match-play in fourth place with an average of 204.

Match-play begins on Thursday with eight games and will conclude on Friday with eight more games when 2005 Team USA will be decided.
