HOOFDDORP, Netherlands-- Team USA’s women finished second overall at the 2004 WTBA Tenpin Cup at the Claus Event Center. The USA was defeated by England 354-332 according to Baker formatting.
Nebraska bowlers Shannon Pluhowsky (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Amanda Burgoyne (Newport, Minn.) bowled with Team USA in the Tenpin Cup which began Nov.16 and finished up on Nov. 25, forcing them to miss the Huskers third tournament of the year (the Minnesota State Invitational. Pluhowsky has competed with Team USA for four years, while Burgoyne is a first-year member. Also competing with Team USA is former Husker Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty (Chicago, Ill.)
Team USA was the number one qualifier going into the two-game stepladder final. England took a 21 pin lead going into the second game by defeating Team USA, 196-175. Both teams struggled in the second game. England left three open frames and Team USA could not capitalize on it. The final game was decided by one point as England won 158-157.
Pluhowsky was named co-MVP along with Europe?s Lasse Lintila after battling back and finishing with three strikes in the tenth frame of the final match.
England finished the event in first place winning the gold medal, USA finished took the silver medal, and Germany finished with the bronze medal.
In 2005, the WTBA World Tenpin Team Cup will begin alternating years with the women competing in Denmark, and the men will compete in 2006 in Korea.
