Nebraska senior linebacker Barrett Ruud has been named a third-team All-American according to the Associated Press.
The Lincoln native was joined on the third-team defense by fellow linebackers Lofa Tatupu of Southern California and Leroy Hill of Clemson. Ruud finished the season with a conference-leading 143 tackles, the second-most in Nebraska school history, trailing only his 149 tackles in 2003.
Ruud’s standout 2004 campaign capped a record-breaking Nebraska career. The 6-2, 240-pound Ruud closed out his Nebraska playing career with a school-record 432 total tackles, including 50 tackles for loss, the second-highest total in Husker history.
In addition to his national honors, Ruud has been a consensus All-Big 12 first-team selection, including unanimous selection to the AP’s first-team all-conference squad.
Ruud is one of 12 Big 12 Conference players named to the Associated Press’ three All-America units.
