Timko Named Third-Team All-American

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln - Nebraska sophomore forward/midfielder Brittany Timko earned third-team All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) on Friday. Timko was one of three Big 12 players on the 11-player third team and was one of five league players honored overall.

Timko is the 10th Husker in the 11-year history of the program to garner All-America honors. Overall, Huskers have earned 15 All-America awards.

Timko, who led the Big 12 in every statistical category except two, scored 15 goals, notched 13 assists and totaled 43 points in 2004. During her outstanding season, she tied the Nebraska school record by recording five game-winning assists on the season. Timko also scored three goals in a game twice this season and also added three assists in a game on two occasions.

The Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, native also broke the school record for shortest span between goals when she scored back-to-back goals just 16 seconds apart against Iowa State Sept. 26. Timko also tied school records for most goals in a half (3) and most points in a single game (9).

In addition to her impressive numbers at NU, Timko just concluded an outstanding performance for the Canadian Under-19 National Team at the Under-19 World Championship in Thailand. At the championship, Timko earned rave reviews from the international soccer community and earned the adidas Golden Shoe Award after scoring a tournament-best seven goals in just four games.

The finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Award were also announced on Friday. North Carolina’s Heather O’Reilly, Portland’s Christine Sinclair and Penn State’s Tiffany Weimer were selected as the three finalists for the award, presented annually to the top Division I women’s soccer player. Timko was named one of 15 semifinalists for the award earlier this year.
