Lincoln --- A partner of the Nebraska Athletic Department, First National Bank will present 'The Nebraska Classic,' the annual men's basketball contest between Nebraska and Creighton which will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1:05 p.m.
With the intent of generating sportsmanship between fans from each of the state's only two Division I programs, First National Bank will give away T-shirts at halftime of the contest. The shirts will have each school's primary color represented behind the slogan "Red or Blue: We're all Nebraskans" as a way to promote sportsmanship among the outstanding fans from both schools.
"Sportsmanship has long been bench-marked at Nebraska," said NU Athletic Director Steve Pederson. "This is an effort to make this intra-state game exhibit the highest level of sportsmanship and set the standard across the country."
A logo has also been produced for the contest, featuring both teams’ nicknames in a red and blue color scheme. Following a video about good sportsmanship, FNB will present a $500 scholarship check to the Nebraska and Creighton athletic departments to recognize the ongoing good sportsmanship portrayed by the athletes, coaches, staff and fans of each institution.
While more than 12,900 tickets have been sold to Saturday's contest, basketball fans throughout the state will be able to see the game as it is the first of 10 Husker contests set to be televised within the state border on FSN Midwest. Greg Sharpe (play-by-play) and Matt Davison (color) will call the action on the Huskers' television package. Randy Lee will handle the radio broadcast for the Pinnacle Sports Network.
