Singapore ? Nebraska bowler Shannon Pluhowsky (Phoenix, Ariz.) advanced to the quarterfinal round of competition after remaining in second place Friday at the AMF Bowling World Cup. She has held on to the second seed for three consecutive days. Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia remained in first place after 32 games with a 234.13 average. On Thursday, Zulkifli bowled a 290 game to boost her total pinfall to 7,492.
Pluhowsky, the 2002 AMF World Cup champion, averaged a 223.69 with a pinfall of 7,158. Trailing her in third place was Liza Del Rosario of the Philippines with a 221.19 average and 7,078 pinfall.
The top eight will compete in two groups on Saturday, and all pin totals will be dropped. The quarterfinal winners will advance to Sunday’s semifinals. The championship match will begin Sunday afternoon at the SuperBowl SAFRA Mount Faber facility. The 2004 AMF World Champions will be crowned immediately following the finals.
