Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska rifle team returned to the range Saturday and defeated the UMKC Kangaroos 4,658-4,529. The Huskers turned in strong performances in both disciplines, shooting a 2,329 in both smallbore and air rifle. The Kangaroos recorded a 2,258 in smallbore and a 2,271 in air rifle.
Sophomore Kristina Fehlings led the way for the Huskers in both events. Fehlings shot a personal-best 691 in smallbore, recording a 593 in regulation and a 98 in the finals. In air rifle, Fehlings shot a 589 in regulation to take the individual championship. No final was shot in the event.
Freshman Kirsten Weiss also recorded a personal-best score in smallbore, shooting a 584 in regulation and a 92 in the finals to take third overall.
The match with the Kangaroos marked the Huskers final match of 2004. The team will next see action Jan 15 when they take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in Palmyra, Pa.
