Ann Arbor, Mich. - Gitte Ostermann of the Nebraska women's tennis team fell Friday night in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Ostermann, ranked No. 44 nationally, was off to a fast start as she won the first set 6-3 against Southern California's Nicole Leimbach. But the momentum turned in favor of Leimbach and she never looked back, taking the next two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Earlier in the day, Leimbach defeated the No. 1 seed and defending ITA National Indoor champion Audra Cohen of Northwestern.
Ostermann reached the quarterfinals Friday by defeating nationally ranked Michelle DiCosta of Michigan in the morning session. After breaking DiCosta's serve, Ostermann went on to a 6-4 first-set victory. As she did on Thursday, Ostermann held off the Wolverine's late rally in the second set to win 6-4.
The indoor national meet was the final fall tournament for the Nebraska women's tennis team. The Huskers will hit the courts Thursday, Jan. 20, when they face Creighton at the Woods Tennis Center at 4 p.m. for the start of the 2005 spring season.
