Ann Arbor, Mich. ? Nebraska women's tennis player Gitte Ostermann advanced to the Round of 16 Thursday in the ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Ostermann, who is ranked No. 44, found herself down 5-2 in the first set to Suzanna Lingman of Harvard. However, Ostermann then won five straight games to win the first set 7-5. By continuing her momentum from the first set, Ostermann won the first three games before fending off Lingman's late rally and defeated Lingman 7-5 in the second set.
Assistant Coach Sadhaf Pervez was pleased with Ostermann's play.
"Gitte settled down and started playing her game," Pervez said. "It was a great match and a great first round to get started with."
Ostermann will hit the court again Friday when she faces Michelle DiCosta of Michigan, who is ranked No. 34 nationally.
