Indianapolis, Ind. - Sophomores Jenny Green and Gable Baldwin, both members of the Nebraska track and field team, were two of 287 athletes named 2004 Verizon Junior All-Americans by USA Track and Field on Oct. 29.
To achieve recognition, all honorees placed in the top eight of their respective events at the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 25-27 in College Station, Texas. In order to compete, each individual was required to be a U.S. citizen no older than 19 years of age during the 2004 calendar year. The top two finishers in each event qualified for the 2004 IAAF World Junior Championships, held July 13-18 in Grosetto, Italy.
Green, a two-time NCAA All-American as a freshman in 2004, won the women’s pole vault by clearing a height of 13-1 ? to earn a trip to the World Junior Championships. She reached the final round of the pole vault at the World Championships, finishing in a tie for 11th after failing to clear the opening height of 12-5 1/2.
Baldwin, also an NU pole vaulter, tied for fourth in the event at the USA Junior Championships with a height of 16-0 ?.
