Huskers to Compete in Intrasquad Meet Friday

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team begins preparations for the 2005 season with an intrasquad meet this Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The scrimmage, which will be held in the practice gym in Mabel Lee Hall, is open free of charge to the public.

The Huskers will perform on every event, beginning in Olympic order with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

Fans should enter through the west doors directly across from the CampusRecreationCenter on 14th St.  The gym is located on the third floor of Mabel Lee Hall.

Nebraska returns six letterwinners, including 2003 NCAA all-around and floor exercise champion Richelle Simpson. All-Americans Jamie Saas, Kristi Esposito and Michele Zabawa, as well as letterwinners Stephanie Carter and Danielle Millis, bring experience to the squad. The 2004 Huskers finished their season with a 15-9-1 record and a sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

In addition, newcomers Emily Parsons, Desire Sniatynski and Brittney Williams will showcase their talents. Freshman Vanessa Meloche, who will redshirt in 2005 due to injury, will also be present for the meet.

Nebraska opens its 2005 season Friday, Jan. 7, at Michigan at Crisler Arena at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
