Huskers Help Canadians Advance to Quartefinals

Three Huskers have helped the Canadian Under-19 National Team to a 2-0-1 start at the Under-19 World Championship in Thailand. The Canadians finished second in Group A, losing the goals-scored tiebreaker to Germany.

Nebraska sophomores Tanya Dennis and Brittany Timko and freshman Sari Raber are all competing for the Canadians, who advanced to the quarterfinals and will face China on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 6:45 a.m. Beginning with the quarterfinals, the competition becomes single elimination. The semifinals are set for Nov. 24, with the third-place and championship matches set for Nov. 27.

Canada was 2-0 before facing Germany last night. The Canadians fell behind 3-0, but a goal by Timko secured a point for Canada with a 3-3 tie.

For the championship, Timko leads all players with six goals. Dennis has also notched one goal, as Nebraska players have accounted for seven of Team Canada’s 12 goals (58 percent).
