Sackett Earns State Amateur Honor

Lincoln - University of Nebraska junior Sara Sackett will be honored tonight as the state's 2004 Women's Amateur Player of the Year at the Nebraska Golf Association's Fall Awards Banquet at The Country Club of Lincoln.

In 2004, Sackett captured both the NWAGA Eastern Stroke Play Tournament and the NWAGA Western Stroke Play Tournament.  She also finished in a tie for third place at the NWAGA Stroke Play Championship held at the Wayne Country Club.

A majority of Sackett's points came from her participation in the 2004 Women's Trans-National Amateur at Glenmore Country Club in Keswick, Va., where she won three matches before falling to eventual champion Brittany Lang in the quarterfinals.

During the 2004 fall season for the Huskers, Sackett finished with a 78.00 stroke average over eight fall rounds.  She produced a pair of top-20 tournament finishes, including a seventh-place showing at the Chip-N Club Invitational.  She closed the fall season by finishing in a tie for 19th at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.  She produced a career-low three-round score of 224 in South Carolina, including a career-low 72 in the final round of the tournament.
