Nebraska's Ostermann Falls in the Second Round of the ITA's Qualifying Tournament

Los Angeles ? Gitte Ostermann, ofthe Nebraska women's tennis team, played in the first two rounds of the qualitfying tournament of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Los Angeles.

In her first match, Ostermann, the No.16 seed, faced freshman Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech who earned a spot winning in the pre-qualifying rounds. After a close first set, Ostermann's momentum carried over into the second set, 7-5, 6-4.

Coach Jacobson was pleased with the early result.

"Kristi Miller is playing at a very high level right now," Jacobson said. "She had won four straight coming into today, as well as winning the Baylor invitational. The first win is always the most challenging so this will give Gitte confidence. It was a great win."

In the second match of the day, Ostermann faced Florida's Boglarka Berecz. Ostermann was off to a fast start in the first set, up 5-2, before Berecz made a furious comeback to take both sets, 7-5, 6-1.

Ostermann was the last Husker in the tournament.

The Huskers will return to the courts on Oct 20 in the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
