Lincoln- The Husker baseball squad finished their second week of fall camp Saturday, riding the wave of a strong week. After a scout day on Monday, and practices Tuesday and Wednesday, the Huskers closed out the week with scrimmages Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
"It was a good week," head coach Mike Anderson said. "Practices have been good and intense, and we have come out in our first few scrimmages and been very good. Scout day went extremely well. We think that with a lot of the young kids in our program have great deal of talent, and I think that our scouts feel the same way. It is just kind of reconfirming things we felt about our program."
Anderson has been impressed by the play of the freshman early in camp.
"We had all freshmen in our gray team’s lineup in Thursday’s scrimmage with the exception of one senior in right field, and they were hitting it ahead of our veterans in a scrimmage," Anderson said. "They have some talent; they are just making some young freshmen mistakes at times. It is just trying to transition that and get their level of play up to Big 12 level as fast as possible."
The strong return of outfielder Brandon Fusilier has left Anderson satisfied and anticipating strong returns from others.
"Fusilier has been outstanding," Anderson said. "He has had a very solid start. We are really happy with what he has been doing. His work habits have been outstanding.
"Brian Duensing and Tony Watson are both on pace right now. They are not going to throw this fall, but they are on pace for the spring."
The Huskers will continue fall camp this week, before heading into the annual Red-White scrimmage beginning Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
