<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Carbondale, Ill. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team ended its first road trip of the season with its second win of the weekend, beating Southern Illinois 132-84 on Saturday afternoon.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Lauren Bailey led the Huskers with three individual wins in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 400-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle, as the Huskers won 11 of 13 events on the day.
Another sophomore, Kate Wheeler continued to impress. Wheeler had another individual two-win day as she finished first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races.
For the second straight day, NU opened the meet with an exciting medley relay win, this time at the 400-yard length. The team of Casey Schnack, Rachel Schlatter, Elisabeth Grover and Kate Wheeler edged out SIU by just over one second in a time of 3:55.21.
Both Schnack and Grover also picked up individual wins, as Schnack won the 200-yard backstroke and Grover took the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Lynn Siemert won the last race for NU, the 50-yard freestyle in 24.58.
In the diving competition Becky Johnson controlled both the one and three-meter boards, winning both competitions. Johnson blew away the competition in the one-meter contest while she just edged out Husker teammate Amie Buoy in the three-meter, scoring 251.02-249.09.
The Huskers will return home for the first time this year when they host the Alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 8:30 a.m. The action will take place at the Bob Devaney Sports Center pool.
