Nebraska advances to field of Eight in ITA Regional Championships

Tulsa, Okla. ? The Nebraska Women's Tennis team advanced to the field of 8 in the ITA Regional championships in Tulsa, Okla., Friday, Oct. 22.

On the singles court, the Huskers continued to make their presence felt.  Gitte Ostermann, the No. 44 ranked player nationally and the tournament's No. 3 seed, blanked Oklahoma's Jessica Braver in straight sets to advance to the field of 16.  After a close first set, Ewelina Skaza rolled through her second set defeating Outi Jarvinen, 7-6, 6-3 in the consolation round of 32.  

In the round of 16, two Huskers advanced to the field of 8.  In the main draw of the tournament, Ostermann bounced back after dropping the second set to defeat Olga Boulvtcheva of BYU, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, while in the consolation tournament, Skaza made quick work of Kansas's Christine Skoda, 6-4, 6-2.

On the doubles court, Ostermann and Imke Reimers once again proved to be an effective combination defeating Arkansas's Melissa Cornett and Iliana Pacheco, 8-2, and Pamela Castellejos and Katie Garcia advanced after a close duel with Gabby Baker and Jessica Braver of Oklahoma winning 9-8.

In the doubles round of 16, Castellejos and Garcia won over Zana Masnic and Irina Tkachenko of Oklahoma State, 8-5.

The Huskers will return to the courts Saturday, Oct. 22 in Tulsa, Okla., for the fourth day of the ITA Regional Championships.
