Red-White Scrimmage Set for Husker Fans

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men’s basketball team will hold its annual Red-White scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Devaney Center. The scrimmage, which has been held in conjunction with the Haunted Hoops event the past two seasons, will follow the Nebraska football team’s Homecoming game against Missouri.

"This is another great opportunity for our fans to get an early look at this year’s team, but the difference is that this time they will have had two weeks of practice," said Executive Associate A.D. Marc Boehm. "This will be a fun event, and we hope to use it to help the team ? especially the newcomers ? get a feel for our outstanding home game-day atmosphere. It will also be a chance for members of the community to give back by donating to Project Comfort."

Admission is free to the event, but fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to donate to Project Comfort. The project is part of a non-profit foundation that collects stuffed animals and dolls to provide to children in combat areas. The stuffed animals and dolls will be taken to Fort Riley, Kan., and shipped to Iraq, where they will try to be paired with Nebraskans deployed with the National Guard.

The full-scale scrimmage is set to begin at 4 p.m. The squad will be divided into two teams of seven that will play a pair of 20-minute periods with a 10-minute halftime.

Nebraska returns 10 letterwinners and adds five newcomers for the 2004-05 campaign. The Huskers are looking for their second straight postseason berth in 2005 under Coach Barry Collier.
