Sophomore Abby Penas scored the first goal of her career and fellow sophomore Brittany Timko tied the single-season school record by notching her fifth game-winning assist of the season, as NU defeated Texas Tech, 3-0, on a cold and windy night at the Abbott Sports Complex on Friday.

The win improved the Huskers’ record to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech, which is still searching for its first league victory, fell to 3-12 and 0-7.
In the seventh minute, Nebraska won a corner kick and Timko sent a ball into the box that junior Sasha Andrews headed in from point-blank range for the first goal of the game. The goal was Andrews' third of the season and the assist increased Timko's consecutive games streak of at least one point to nine in a row.
The game remained 1-0 until 57:38 when junior Nikki Baker scored an unassisted goal off a rebound.
Leading 2-0, Penas scored her first career goal in the 79th minute off assists from freshman Sari Raber and junior Kari Hogan, who recorded her first assist of the year.
For the game, Nebraska outshot the Red Raiders, 24-8, and posted a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
In goal, sophomore Katie Wright recorded three saves in posting her fifth shutout of the season.
The Huskers wrap up a four-game homestand with a 1 p.m. match against Baylor on Sunday at the Abbott Sports Complex. Fans attending Saturday’s volleyball game between Nebraska and IowaState will receive free admission to the soccer game with a ticket stub from the volleyball match.
