Huskers Tame Tigers in Overtime

Columbia, Mo. - Nikki Baker's goal in the 104th minute of play gave the Nebraska soccer team a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Friday evening.  Baker's goal stretched the Huskers' winning streak to six games and allowed Nebraska to improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 Conference action. 

With the game tied at 1-1, Baker finished her second-game winning goal of the season on a Brittany Timko corner kick that was played to Baker by Sasha Andrews.  Baker's game-winner was her second score of the night, as she provided all of the firepower in the Huskers' sixth consecutive victory.

Baker opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season at 13:55 to give Nebraska a quick 1-0 lead.  But Missouri answered lated in the second half with a goal at 78:40 to send the game into overtime.

With time winding down in overtime, Baker finished her seventh goal of the season to keep Nebraska on top of the Big 12 Conference standings. Missouri fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 action with the loss to the Huskers.

The Huskers will enjoy Sunday off and begin preparations for next weekend's showdowns with Texas and Texas A&M in Lincoln.  Nebraska will play host to the Longhorns on Friday at 7 p.m., before closing the weekend with the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Abbott Sports Complex.  For ticket information, call the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8BIGRED.
