NU Holds Final Full-Scale Workout

Lincoln - The Nebraska football team held its final full-scale preparations for Saturday’s road game at Texas Tech with a two-hour workout in half pads in Memorial Stadium on Thursday.

NU Head Coach Bill Callahan commented to the media following practice on the reduced-size roster that Big 12 regulations will permit the Huskers to take to Texas this weekend.

"I’d like to bring everybody if I could," Callahan said. "But there are limitations, there are restrictions that limit us to 70. So we’re going to take the 70 best guys on our team to Lubbock and compete hard."

Callahan also addressed the status of Husker starters Steve Kriewald and Lornell McPherson, who have both battled injuries this week in practice.

"(Steve’s) really rebounded well," Callahan said. "He’s had a good week, each day he’s progressed well. His injury has subsided, and hopefully there won’t be any reoccurrences. We’re encouraged by his progress and hope to see him Saturday night.

"(Lornell) looks like he’s working well, and he’s got speed," Callahan said. "He’s coming out of cuts pretty well and breaking on the ball and bursting. So, he looks to me that he’s ready to play, and we’ll certainly play him if he’s capable."

Nebraska will wrap up its game week preparations on Friday with a morning walkthrough practice before the team heads for Lubbock.
