Huskers Set to Begin Play at Men's All-American Championships

Eight members of the Nebraska men's tennis team will be in action at the ITA Men's All-American Championships beginning Oct. 1 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The event, which runs from the Oct. 1 to 10, is the largest collegiate event of the season with 192 singles players in the pre-qualifying tournament and a total tournament entry of more than 350.

Five Huskers begin play in the pre-qualifying singles round while three were selected to begin in the qualifying round. Seeing action beginning on Friday in the pre-qualifying stages will be Jose Rivera, Joel Reckewey, James Clow, Karl Jones and Marcus Karner. Participants must go through five singles rounds to reach the qualifying round, and then three more matches in the qualifying tournament to reach the main draw. Eight singles players will advance to the qualifying tournament.

Jerry Posch, Joerg Barthel and Adrian Szatmary, who was ranked No. 115 in the ITA preseason poll, will begin play Oct. 4 in the qualifying round. They must post three wins to reach the main draw.

In doubles action, the tandems of Karner/Szatmary and Clow/Reckewey will begin action in the pre-qualifying draw while Barthel and Rivera begin play in the qualifying round.

The Huskers are coming off a strong season-opening showing last weekend at the Nebraska Invitational. NU posted 30 wins in 38 singles matches against Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Denver and Drake in the Huskers' first home tournament in more than six years.
