Lincoln - The Nebraska football team concluded its off-week practice schedule Thursday afternoon with a two-and-a-half hour practice in half pads inside Memorial Stadium.
The Huskers will not practice on Friday or Saturday, because the coaching staff wants to give them a mid-season rest.
"We just want them to relax and get away from football for a couple of days, rest up, get recharged and watch some other teams play," Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell said. "It’s time for them to get a little break, because we’re going to go hard now for the next eight weeks. The next eight games are really critical. They’ve been going hard since training camp, so it’s important that they get a little time off."
The coaching staff will pay special attention to this weekend’s game between Kansas and Texas Tech, NU’s next two opponents.
"That’s something we’ll be watching very closely," Norvell said. "Obviously, we play both teams in the next two weeks, so it will be a real important game for us to watch."
The Huskers will return to the practice field on Sunday, when they begin preparations for their Oct. 2 game against Kansas.
