Huskers Travel West for Ron Moore Intercollegiate

The Nebraska men's golf team continues its fall season on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27 and 28 at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver.

The 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes on Monday, with the final 18 holes set for Tuesday morning. The tournament will be contested at Riverdale Dunes Golf Course, a par-72, 7,129-yard, Pete Dye design in Brighton, Colo.

The Huskers have started strong this fall, with a tournament victory and a solid outing in its second meet of the fall. Nebraska captured the team title at its own Fairway Club Invitational on Sept. 13-14, outdistancing the field by 10 strokes in windy conditions.

Earlier this week, Nebraska finished fifth in the 13-team field at the Kansas Invitational, compiling a three-round total of 888. The Huskers were tied for the lead after one round and Coach Bill Spangler is pleased with the confidence level of his young squad early in the fall season.

Spangler said the internal competition for positions in the Nebraska lineup have made each player better. The Husker lineup for the Ron Moore Intercollegiate will include junior Judd Cornell and sophomores Drew Reynolds and Brady Schnell. Cornell and Reynolds finished second and third, respectively, at the Fairway Club Invitational, while Schnell paced the Huskers with a 12th-place showing at Kansas. Next week's tournament will mark Reynolds' first appearance in the five-man team lineup this season, as he has competed as an individual in the Huskers first two outings.

The final two spots in the Nebraska lineup remained up for grabs heading into Friday's team qualifying round.

Spangler expects the Huskers to compete for the team title in Colorado. The Huskers are the highest-ranked team in the field according to the latest GolfWeek rankings, checking in at No. 43. Towson is ranked 76th, and is the only other team in the current top 100 in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate field.
