Lincoln -- The Nebraska football team held its final preseason exercises Thursday afternoon during a two-hour practice in half pads on the Memorial Stadium turf.
The workout was the final full-scale practice before Saturday night’s season-opening game vs. Western Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
"We concluded the final preparations today for Western Illinois," Head Coach Bill Callahan said. "We’re excited about playing, about this opportunity and challenge, and we look forward to Saturday night. I know our players are eager, they’re anxious and ready to get going again."
Callahan is looking forward to his first official game on the Husker sidelines.
"It’s a great atmosphere to be involved in," Callahan said, "...at the University of Nebraska for a Saturday night opening game. The energy, the crowd and, of course, the electricity will be there on Saturday."
NU will hold a short walk-through exercise in sweats on Friday afternoon in Memorial Stadium.
