Clayton Leads N-Club

Former Husker football player McCathorn Clayton was named the new president of the N Club in July. With Clayton leading the way, the N Club is set to embark on several new and exciting changes during the 2004-05 season.

"I am very excited to take on this new role as the N Club president," Clayton said. "We’re in a changing time right now that is very positive for the University, and it is exciting to be a part of it. We want to make sure that the N Club is a true resource for all of our former letterwinners," Clayton said. "We want it to be a point of contact and a communication link, not only with the University and the athletic department, but with the business community, fans and citizens throughout the state of Nebraska."

One of the primary changes that will be made immediately will be the removal of the dues requirement in order to participate in the N Club. Another significant change will be the addition of a meeting place for all former letterwinners in attendance at Memorial Stadium every football Saturday during the fall of 2004.

"We want our former athletes to still play an active role in the athletic department and with our current athletes," Clayton said. "We want to keep in close communication through activities like reunions, golf outings and other events that can get players from every sport involved and make it exciting through competition."

Clayton said the N Club had some work to do to keep it among the nation’s best.

"With the changing times, the N Club needs to make some changes in order to keep our group at the head of the pack," Clayton said. "We need to make sure that our student-athletes know that we are available to provide links to all types of resources for them as they enter their professional lives."

Clayton lettered as a quarterback for the Huskers in 1985 and 1986 before moving to cornerback as a senior in 1987. He threw for 626 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for another 356 yards and six touchdowns in his two seasons as a quarterback. He added four tackles and one pass breakup as a senior. Clayton came to Nebraska out of Jones High School in Orlando, Fla., and has gone on to a successful professional sales career.
