Miami, Fla.-- University of Nebraska bowler Amanda Burgoyne (Newport, Minn.) helped lead Junior Team USA to victory at the 2004 Tournament of The Americas earlier this week.
Burgoyne, who is entering her sophomore season at Nebraska, won the junior women’s all-events gold with 7,426 pins over 36 games. A two-time Junior Team USA member and 2004 U.S. Senior National Team member, Burgoyne also earned the junior division Sportsmanship award which was voted by her peers.
Junior Team USA won the gold with a total of 9,868 pin total over twelve games. The United States finished 1,225 pins ahead of runner-up Colombia’s total (28,043).
As a freshman, Burgoyne averaged a 201.839 in 62 games, helping Nebraska to the first-ever NCAA title in 2004. She posted five top-10 finishes in nine events, including a first-place finish in the Women’s Triad Classic in November of 2003.
The Huskers begin defense of their NCAA championship at the Whitewater Invitational the weekend of Nov. 12-14.
