Huskers Begin In-Season Schedule

Lincoln -- The Nebraska football team returned to practice Tuesday with a two-hour practice in full pads on the Memorial Stadium turf. The Huskers began their in-season routine following Monday’s day off from action.

Head Coach Bill Callahan thought the tempo of practice dragged in the beginning of the workout, but picked up near the end. He said that it was no surprise, due to Monday’s start of the university’s fall semester.

"We’re pleased with the practice," Callahan said, "But it’s one of those things where kids get back to school, they’ve got outside distractions that bother them. It’s our job to get them refocused and practicing right, but I think they finished well today."

At this point in fall camp, Callahan said the Huskers are concentrating on fine-tuning their game.

"We’re just trying to refine everything we’re doing," Callahan said. "Refinement and definition, those are our goals right now. We really try to focus on eliminating those slow snaps in our game and increasing the fast snaps."

The Huskers continue workouts Wednesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. practice. Coach Callahan and requested players will be available for interviews following the conclusion of workouts.

Note: Nebraska had its full roster at practice for the first time on Tuesday, as a total of 20 players joined fall camp. Included in that group are seven players who were not listed in the media guide. The other 13 players were listed in the media guide, but did not report as part of the 105-man roster on Aug. 8.
