Nebraska Football Fall Camp: Day 12

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska football team continued its training camp schedule on Friday morning with a 2-hour and 45-minute workout on the FieldTurf of Memorial Stadium. The Huskers will be back on the field this afternoon for a two-hour workout, completing the fourth of five days with two practices.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Coach Callahan said the offense focused on situations deep in its own territory, among other situational work on Friday morning.

 

“When we are on the road and we are backed up inside our own 5, we have to do a great job coming out and we’ve got to keep our poise in the noise,” Callahan said. “We have to be able execute under real tough scenarios.

 

“Secondly, we had a four-minute drill where we put our defense in some tough predicaments and we also put our offense in some tough spots to try to work on closing a game out. That was great situational work for us. It was a great morning. The guys worked hard, but we still have a long ways to go.”

 

Callahan also said the Huskers will vote on team captains this evening and the 2004 captains will be announced on Saturday morning.

 

“The criteria for being a captain is important,” Callahan said. “Being respectful, earning the respect of their teammates, being a hard worker, working hard on and off the field, being a leader on and off the field?those are just some of the criteria we are looking for in a captain.”

 

The Huskers will continue with an afternoon practice on Friday, followed by a single workout on Saturday morning at Memorial Stadium. The full team will take part in Fan Day on Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and then wrap up the training camp portion of its fall practice with two workouts on Sunday.
