Huskers Progress as Fall Camp Continues

Lincoln-The Huskers returned to the grass practice fields on Thursday for a single practice session in the afternoon.

Defensive Coordinator Kevin Cosgrove was pleased with the improvement the defense continues to show.

“I see us improving every day defensively as we get accustomed to the different types of offensive formations,” Cosgrove said.  “The kids are playing with more confidence and they are playing faster.  I have been very pleased with our practices recently.”

Cosgrove was also pleased to see junior defensive tackle LeKevin Smith return to practice after missing the past few days because of an interview.

“It’s nice to have a 300-pounder in there,” Cosgrove said.  “He is a good football player.  He is a big, strong, physical kid.  We need a guy like that.”

Sophomore defensive end Adam Carriker continued working multiple positions on the defensive line.

“Carriker has the ability to play all four positions on our line,” Cosgrove said.  “We will move him inside if need be, and he’ll be there in nickel situations.  He is an added weapon for us.”

Head Coach Bill Callahan also addressed the media briefly after practice to note that redshirt freshman receiver Ronnie Smith of Carson, Calif. has left the team.

The Huskers return to the practice field Friday morning for two-a-days, with the first session beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the second session at 3:40 p.m.
