Huskers Continue Hard Work in Fall Camp

The Nebraska football team resumed its two-a-day practice schedule Wednesday, going through a two-hour-and-15-minute workout in full pads on the Memorial Stadium turf in the morning and a two-hour workout on the grass practice fields in the afternoon.

Coach Bill Callahan announced following Wednesday afternoon’s practice that offensive tackle Cornealius Thomas, a transfer from the City College of San Francisco, has been cleared to join the Husker football program. Callahan is hopeful Thomas will arrive in Lincoln on Thursday and join his Husker teammates in fall camp. Callahan said Thomas, a 6-6, 315-pound native of Honolulu, Hawaii, will be required to go through a five-day acclimation period without pads and will focus on conditioning during that time period.

While the Huskers continue to install their new offensive and defensive packages, Callahan indicated following the morning workout that the team has not slowed in its conditioning work, despite recent injuries.

“We are not backing down,” Callahan said. “We will continue to work hard and stay on schedule. We are going to be smart about what we are doing, but in the conditioning aspect of it, we will not back down.”

Callahan indicated that several players remain sidelined by various injuries, but he is hopeful of getting a number of them back on the field soon, including defensive tackle Brandon Teamer who has missed the past several days with an ankle injury.

Nebraska continues fall camp on Thursday with a single practice in the afternoon. The Huskers also have two-a-day practice sessions on Friday and Sunday and have a full day scheduled for Saturday, with a morning practice followed by the annual Fan Day at Memorial Stadium from 1-2:30 p.m.
